How it works

Four steps, about ninety seconds

  1. 01

    Get a country

One shared country every day, or pick any of 190 borders in practice mode.

  2. 02

    Draw the border

Freehand the outline on the chart grid. No zooming, no reference map, no peeking.

  3. 03

    Get scored

We normalise position and size, then compare your shape to the real border pixel by pixel.

  4. 04

    Learn the edge you missed

A nine-sector readout names the region you under-drew, so the next attempt is better.

FAQ

Questions about the country drawing game

How does the country drawing score work?

Your sketch and the real border are both scaled and centred to the same bounding box, rasterised, and compared. The headline number is intersection-over-union: the overlap between the two shapes divided by their combined area. Position and size never count against you — only the shape does.

Do I need to draw the country in the right place or size?

No. Draw it anywhere on the canvas at any size. Country Drawing normalises both outlines before scoring, so a small sketch in the corner scores exactly the same as a large one in the centre.

What is a good score?

Anything above 55 means you have the right family of shapes. Above 70 is genuinely strong, and 85+ is cartographer territory — most people land between 30 and 60 on their first few attempts.

Is Country Drawing free, and do I need an account?

It is completely free and there is no account. The leaderboard is anonymous: you pick a display name when you submit a score, and nothing else is stored.

Which countries can I draw?

All 190 sovereign countries in our dataset, from easy rectangles like Egypt to nightmares like Norway and Chile. Every country has its own page with drawing tips.
